Pontus Erik Sergio Carlsson (born December 18, 1982 in Cali , Colombia ) is a Swedish chess player .

Life

When Carlsson was one year old, his entire Colombian family was killed. He was adopted by a Swedish couple. When he was four years old, his adoptive father Ingvar (who holds the title of correspondence chess grandmaster ) taught him to play chess.

Pontus Carlsson has held the title of International Master since August 2005 . For this purpose, it met five standards between June 2001 and July 2005. He has been a grandmaster since June 2007. He fulfilled the required standards at the European Team Championships 2005 in Gothenburg , in August 2006 at the 7 Ciutat Tarragona , in February 2007 at the II Ciutat de Sóller and in April 2007 at the Sigeman tournament in Malmö .

National team

With the Swedish national team he took part in the Chess Olympiads 2006 in Turin , 2008 in Dresden and 2012 in Istanbul . He also played at the European Team Championships in Gothenburg in 2005 (in the second team), in Heraklion in 2007 , in Porto Carras in 2011 and in Warsaw in 2013 , where he received an individual bronze medal in 2007 for his result of 6 points from 9 games as reserve player.

He played club chess in Sweden for Linköping ASS , from 1999 to 2013 for Sollentuna SK (since 2009 Team Viking ), with whom he won the Swedish team championship several times ( 1999/2000 , 2001/02 , 2002/03 , 2005/06 , 2006 / 07 , 2009/10 and 2011/12 ) and in the European Club Cups 2002, 2005 and 2007. From 2013 to 2017 he played for Eksjö SK and in the 2017/18 season for champions Malmö AS . Outside of the Swedish first division, he has played in clubs in Spanish and Catalan leagues as well as in Iceland; in the Czech extra league he played for ŠK ERA Poštovní spořitelna in the 2013/14 season and for ŠK Dopravní podnik Praha in the 2019/20 season .
