Pontus Karlsson (born August 19, 1983 ) is a Swedish football player . The midfielder rose in 2009 with Åtvidabergs FF in the Allsvenskan .

His younger brother Christoffer (* 1988) is also active as a professional player, has been a professional player at Åtvidabergs FF since 2003 and has been used for this since 2004. Both father Mats Karlsson (* 1957) spent most of his careers, coming from the lower class Degerfors IF , also with Åtvidabergs FF and played with them first class for several years.

Career

Karlsson comes from the youth of Åtvidabergs FF . For the team he made his debut in the second division season in 2000 and came in his early years on the side of Imad Chhadeh , Daniel Hallingström and Mats Haglund in the Superettan . In his first two years in Swedish professional football only a supplementary player, he made his breakthrough in the 2004 season . With 14 goals this season he was the club's best goalscorer. This placed him on the one hand with Andreas Alm and Kabba Samura in third place on the league's list of goalscorers behind Stefan Bärlin and Dioh Williams , on the other hand he led the club into the race for promotion to the first division. After a series of unsuccessful games at the end of the season, however, it was only enough for seventh place in the table, the relegation place occupied by Assyriska Föreningen was missed by six points.

In the following season, the team around Karlsson could not build on the prelude times in the league as table tenth, but was more successful in the national cup . The second division reached the final, which was lost to Djurgårdens IF with a 2-0 defeat. As the opponent also won the league title, Åtvidabergs FF moved into the UEFA Cup . There the club surprised and came - although as the only second-rate representative in the country - the furthest: Etzella Ettelbrück from Luxembourg with two wins and the then table leader of the Norwegian Tippeligaen Brann Bergen were eliminated due to the away goals rule after two draws, only the one trained by Krassimir Balakow Swiss club Grasshoppers Zurich was too high a hurdle.

After the trip to the European Cup, Karlsson's club concentrated again on the championship, accordingly he achieved single-digit table positions again. Karlsson was initially not as successful as a goalscorer, but due to his assists he was still involved in a double-digit number of goals. In the 2009 season , however, he was again the most dangerous attacking player in his club, with eight goals this season he outstripped Kristian Bergström , Jesper Arvidsson , Daniel Hallingström, Viktor Prodell and Oscar Möller . He was one of the guarantors that the two-time champion returned to Allsvenskan as runner-up behind Mjällby AIF . There, however, he was no longer part of the regular team due to injury, among other things, and so could not avoid a direct relegation. In the summer of 2011, the club finally awarded him to the cooperation partner BK Kenty in the fourth division 2 .
