Stefan Arne Bärlin (born May 31, 1976 in Katrineholm ) is a Swedish football player . The midfielder and striker , who became Swedish national champion with Djurgårdens IF in 2002, has played in Sweden and Norway during his career so far. In 2010 and 2011 he worked as a playing assistant coach at Västerås SK .
Career
Bärlin comes from the youth of Katrineholm SK . As a youth player, he moved to Västerås SK , for which he made his debut in the competition team in 1994. With the team playing in the second division at the time, he developed into a regular player and rose with her to the Allsvenskan at the end of the 1996 season . In the subsequent first division season he advanced to junior national team in the Swedish U-21 national team . With the club he played meanwhile against direct relegation. At the end of the season, the team finished third from bottom of the table and then competed in the relegation games against the Gothenburg club BK Häcken . After a 1-1 draw and a 2-4 defeat, she was relegated again, but Bärlin had proven himself in the Allsvenskan.
Bärlin moved to Gothenburg and joined the IFK Gothenburg . At first he was at the side of Magnus Erlingmark , Håkan Mild , Mikael Nilsson and Bengt Andersson Stammkraft at his new club. In the course of the 1999 season he lost his regular seat under the new coach Stefan Lundin and was increasingly on the bench. Dissatisfied with the role as a supplementary player, he turned his back on the club after two seasons and moved to the second division club Djurgårdens IF, where he saw a better perspective. As a champion of the second division season in 2000 , he rose with the club directly to the Allsvenskan. Under the direction of the coaching duo Zoran Lukić and Sören Åkeby , the team around Stefan Rehn , Louay Chanko , Jones Kusi-Asare and Babis Stefanidis established themselves right at the top of the league. After the runner-up championship as a climber behind local rivals Hammarby IF in the first year, she won the championship title in the subsequent 2002 season. However, Bärlin only had a share of the title win with 16 league games, at the cup final after the end of the season he was not part of the squad.
In December 2002 Bärlin fixed his return to Västerås SK from the second division season 2003 and signed a three-year contract. With 13 goals this season he was one of the guarantors of the club's relegation. In his second season he increased his goal risk alongside Patric Feltendahl , David Curtolo and Joonas Botold . Well ahead of BK Häcken's Dioh Williams, he was crowned top scorer in the second highest division in Sweden with 23 goals this season. He was also a preparer for eight goals, with 31 goal participations he was also a league champion. As a result, he left the club after two seasons and joined the Norwegian club IK Start in the Tippeligaen , where he signed a contract valid for three seasons. In the first division promoted team he fluctuated between bench and starting line-up before establishing himself in the starting line-up. He contributed a total of seven goals this season to the runner-up behind series champion Rosenborg BK . After changing coach to Stig Inge Bjørnebye in 2006, he hardly got beyond the status of a supplementary player in the following seasons. In the summer of 2007 he therefore moved to Odd Grenland within the league . Although he scored seven goals for his new club by the end of the season, it was only enough to occupy the relegation place. In the relegation games he failed with the club after two defeats at FK Bodø / Glimt and joined him in the Adeccoligaen .
In the summer of 2008 Bärlin returned to Sweden for Västerås SK. With the third division team, he started in Division 1 . After the end of the 2009 season, he moved up to the club as assistant coach to the former youth coach Kalle Granath . At the same time, he was still on the field and managed to return to the Superettan with the team at the end of 2010. After the direct relegation, Bärlin first headed the marketing department of the VSK, in order to switch to the marketing of the competitors from IK Sirius in Uppsala in February 2012. There, says Bärlin, who lives in Stockholm, he can be closer to his family.
Style of play
In the course of his career, Stefan Bärlin mainly played in the central or half-left offensive midfield, but was also used in attack. He was considered to be a strong "midfield engine" who radiated a high degree of goal danger.
