The Superettan 2004 was the fifth season of the second highest Swedish football league under this name and the total of 76th season since the official introduction of such in 1928. The season began on April 17 and ended on October 23, 2004.
Season course
Last year's third team, BK Häcken, dominated the league and made it back to the Allsvenskan early . Behind it there was a duel between Gefle IF and Assyriska Föreningen for the second promotion place. With a 0-0 draw at Gothenburg Klub Västra Frölunda IF on the last day of the game, the team from Gävle secured second place on their own, while the immigrant club from Södertälje missed the last chance with a 1: 3 defeat at leaders BK Häcken and completed the season on the relegation site.
Assyriska FF failed in the relegation on the table thirteenth of the Allsvenskan Örgryte IS after a 2-1 home win in the first leg by a 0-1 defeat in the second leg due to the away goals rule . After the license was withdrawn from the Erstligaachten Örebro SK , the team moved up as the third promoted team.
At the end of the table there was a pentathlon between first division relegated Enköpings SK , Bodens BK , Falkenbergs FF , IK Brage and new league player Friska Viljor FC . Falkenbergs FF scored four points on the third and penultimate game day and thus saved themselves one game day before the end of the season. A 2-1 away win at Falkenbergs FF saved Bodens BK on the last day of the match, as the team benefited from the 2-1 defeat of Enköpings SK at the bottom of the table, Friska Viljor FC, and overtook their direct competitors.
