Boaz Emanuel Berg (born December 28, 1981 in Skövde ) is a Swedish chess player .

Life

He has been the chess grandmaster since 2004 . In July 2007 he came first at the Politiken Cup in Helsingør and won the Nordic Championship as the best Scandinavian. At the Swedish national championship in July 2008 in Växjö , he shared the tournament victory with Tiger Hillarp Persson . At the national championship in 2009 in Kungsör he won the title with 9.5 points from 13 games.

In January 2015 he is number 3 in the Swedish ranking. In contrast to Ulf Andersson , Sweden's long-time top player, Berg is considered an attacking player. He is an expert on the Najdorf variant , about which he has also published in New In Chess .

Berg is a father of two.

Berg took part in all seven Chess Olympiads from 2002 to 2014 , scoring 34.5 points from 66 games. Berg also took part in the European Team Championship with the Swedish team in 1999, 2005, 2007, 2013 and 2015 .

In the Swedish Elitserien , Berg played in the 1998/99 season and from 2003 to 2009 for Sollentuna SK , from 1999 to 2003 for Lunds ASK , from 2011 to 2018 for Team Viking , and since 2018 he has played for Wasa SK . He was the Swedish team champion in 1999, 2006 , 2007 , 2012 , 2015 and 2017 . In the German Federal Chess League Berg played in the 1999/2000 season at PSV Duisburg , in the 2000/01 season at SF Baiertal-Schatthausen , from 2001 to 2004 at Hamburger SK and in the 2011/12 and 2014/15 seasons at Hansa Dortmund . In the Danish Skakligaen (until 2004 1st Division) Berg played from 2002 to 2009 with the Helsinge Skakklub and was with this 2003 , 2004 , 2005 , 2006 , 2007 , 2008 and 2009 Danish team champion. In the 2015/16 season he played for the Charlottenlunder club Philidor and became champion with them. In the Norwegian Eliteserien , Berg has been playing for Oslo Schakselskap since 2009 and was the Norwegian team champion with them in 2010 , 2011 , 2012 , 2013 , 2014 and 2015 . In the British Four Nations Chess League , Berg played for Wood Green Hilsmark Kingfisher in the 2010/11 season and in the 2009 Spanish Team Championship for CA Solvay Torrelavega . Berg took part in the European Club Cup four times , in 2006 and 2007 with the Sollentuna SK , in 2010 and 2011 with the Oslo Schakselskap .
