Peter Koech (born February 18, 1958 in Kilibwoni , Nandi County ) is a former Kenyan obstacle runner .
At the World Athletics Championships in Rome in 1987 , he finished seventh over the 3000 meter obstacle. The greatest success of his career, however, he celebrated at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul , when he won the silver medal in the obstacle course. With a time of 8: 06.79 min he only had to admit defeat to his compatriot Julius Kariuki .
On July 3, 1989, Koech set a new world record in the obstacle course in Stockholm and, with his time of 8: 05.35 min, undercut the over eleven year old, manually stopped record of Henry Rono (8: 05.4 min). Three years later, Moses Kiptanui improved the record to 8: 02.08 min.
Peter Koech is 1.80 m tall and weighed 67 kg when he was active.
