Life

Aage was born the son of soap manufacturer Oskar Emil Blumensaadt and his wife Haralda Bernhardine Trolle. From 1905 to 1907 Blumensaadt studied at the Art Academy in Sorø . He then worked for a few years as a singer and actor, including at Dagmarteatret in Copenhagen from 1911 to 1916 , touring with Oda Nielsen , among others , but then turned increasingly to painting. In 1918 he studied with Harald Giersing , a few years his senior , one of the most important exponents of classic-modern Danish painting, and was close to the Grønningen artist group . Long study trips took him to Berlin, Dresden and Paris (1920) as well as Norway (1928).

Blumensaadt had been married to Emma Margrethe Larsen (1888–1979), the daughter of a manager of the DFDS shipping company , since 1921 and was thus financially secure. He lived in Sorø since 1920, where he worked as a drawing teacher at the Sorø Akademi . In 1939, Aage Blumensaadt died of tuberculosis at the age of 50 in the Vejlefjord Sanatorium and was buried in Pedersborg .

The most important part of his work consists of depictions of landscapes , often from Sorø and the surrounding area in his late work , but also portraits and city scenes. He also experimented with larger decorative projects. Presentations with participation of his works were the spring exhibitions in the Kunsthalle Charlottenborg in Copenhagen (1920-25), the exhibition of the artists of Funen in Odense (1927) and the forums of the artists' association on November 18th in Copenhagen (1936-39). In 1971 a retrospective of his work was shown in Sorø. The art museum there is in possession of part of his estate.
