Weilbach's artist dictionary

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Weilbach's Artist Lexicon ( Danish : Weilbachs Kunstnerleksikon ) - often referred to as "Weilbach" for short - is the standard lexicon of Danish art and Danish artists. It was founded in 1877 by the art historian Philip Weilbach (1834–1900). In the current edition there are around 10,000 entries from artists from Denmark and those who work there; of all ages and styles of art.

As a biographical encyclopedia, it contains not only the name, the life dates and the art direction, but also information on education, special works, exhibitions, awards received, family (descent, spouse, descendants) etc.

Significance for Schleswig-Holstein

Weilbach's artist lexicon is relevant for Germany - especially Schleswig-Holstein - as it also lists the artists of the Danish duchies of Schleswig and Holstein up until the German-Danish War in 1865 . The online version is linked to the Kunstindeks Danmark des Kulturarvsstyrelsen (since 2012 Kulturstyrelsen ) and its authority data .
