Kulturarvsstyrelsen (German Cultural Heritage Authority) was the Danish monument protection authority that existed from 2002 to 2012 and was based in Copenhagen . She was responsible for the preservation of cultural monuments . This also included collections in eight state and 114 state-recognized museums. On January 1, 2012 it was merged with the other authorities of the Danish Ministry of Culture - the arts authority ( Kunststyrelsen ) and the authority for libraries and media ( Styrelsen for Bibliotek og Medier ) - to form the new culture authority ( Kulturstyrelsen ) .

Organization until the end of 2011

The around 100 employees who were employed by Kulturarvsstyrelsen included archaeologists , ethnologists , historians , art historians , architects , restorers , surveyors , lawyers, and economists and political scientists . They had a total annual budget of around DKK 600 million (as of March 2011) with which they advised the Danish ministries, drafted bills and ensured the implementation of laws relating to the Danish cultural heritage. The authority also coordinated and advised the Danish museums and managed a central documentation center in order to provide an overview of the country's cultural heritage. The authority was advised by a number of specialist committees made up of representatives from museums and universities. This also included the special building supervision ( Det Særlige Bygningssyn ) appointed by the Ministry of Culture , who advised the authority on matters relating to the protection and restoration of buildings.

In addition to various websites , Kulturarvsstyrelsen operated two central registers: on the one hand the register Kunstindeks Danmark (KID), which collects information on works of art in state and state-recognized museums and, as one of its integrated components, provides a digitized edition of Weilbach's Kunstnerleksikon ; on the other hand, the central register of cultural history Fund og Fortidsminder (German finds and antiquities), which contains over 150,000 cultural and historical sites, etc. a. archaeological sites, informed.

A major online project launched by the Authority in 2010 is the 1001 fortællinger om Danmark (A Thousand and One Tales of Denmark) website, Denmark's first and largest interactive website about the country's cultural assets.
