Matz Jonathan Westerberg (born February 25, 1994 in Sweden ) is a Swedish chess player .

He won the Swedish Junior Championship in Lund in 2010 and in Stockholm in 2011 and 2013 . In 2013 he won the Nordic championship in school chess in Bifröst . He won the Stockholm Open in 2011, 2014 and 2015, and the Stockholm City Championship in 2011 and 2014.

He played on the reserve board for the Swedish national team at the 2015 European Championships in Reykjavík . At the chess Olympiads in Baku in 2016 and in Batumi in 2018 , he also played on the reserve board.

In club chess, he won Sweden’s top division, the Elitserien , in the 2008/09 season with SK Rockaden Stockholm , and in the 2014/15 and 2016/17 seasons with SK Team Viking. In the 2018/19 season he played for the Stockholms Schacksällskap . With the Viking team he took part in the European Club Cups in 2014 and 2015. At the European Club Cup 2015 in Skopje he played on the top board, where he was able to win against grandmaster Vlastimil Babula and achieve a grandmaster norm.

Jonathan Westerberg has held the title of International Master since August 2014 . He achieved the standards for this at the Rilton Cup 2012/13 in Stockholm, at a First Saturday GM tournament in October 2013 in Budapest and with overachievement in the A group of the Visma Chess IM tournament in June 2014 in Växjö , which he won.
