Vlastimil Babula (born October 2, 1973 in Havřice ) is a Czech chess master .

successes

In 1997 he received the grandmaster title . Babula won the Czech U16 junior championship in Brno in 1989 , and a year later he was third in the Czechoslovakian U18 championship. In the very successful year 1993 he was runner-up at the U-20 youth world championship in Kozhikode , the winner in the championship of the Czech Republic and fourth at the U20 European youth championship in Vejen .

Babula won or occupied top places in many tournaments: 1st place in Open Horní Bečva (1993), 1st place in Lázně Bohdaneč (1995), I-VII. Place in Pardubice (1995), I-II. Place in Zlín (1995), I-VI. Place in Zalakaros (1998), the I-IV. Place in the interzonal tournament in Krynica meant for him participation in the Knock-out World Championship Groningen 1999, where he was eliminated in the first round against Tal Shaked , 1st place in Open Graz (2002), 1st place in Pardubice (2003) , 1st place in Olomouc (2004), I-II. 1st place in Pardubice (2007), 1st place Havlíčkův Brod (2008) at the championship of the Czech Republic, 2nd place Teplice (2013).

In January 2015 it was ranked 6th in the Czech ranking.

National team

Babula took part in all twelve chess Olympiads with the Czech national team from 1994 to 2016 , where he scored 57 points from 105 games. He achieved the second-best result of the reserve players in 2010 . He played eight times (1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011 , 2013 and 2015) at the European team championships and achieved the best individual result on the third board in 2003 in Plovdiv .

In the Czech Extra League, Babula played in the 1992/93 season for TJ Jiskra Staré Město , in the 1993/94 season for Lokomotiva Olomouc , in the 1994/95 season for champions ŠK Lokomotiva MONING Brno , from 1995 to 1997 for ŠK Havřice from 1997 to 1999 at the ŠK Dům armády Prague , with whom he became team champion in 1999 and took part in the European Club Cup in 1997 , from 1999 to 2013 at the SC A64 Lázně Slatinice (he took part in the European Club Cup 2000 with the ŠK Infinity Pardubice ), since In the 2013/14 season he played for 1. Novoborský ŠK , with whom he became champions in 2014 , 2015 , 2016 , 2017 and 2018 . Babula has played in the German Federal Chess League since 1994 for Werder Bremen , with whom he became German team champion in 2005 and took part in the European Club Cup ten times. In the Austrian 1st Bundesliga he played from 2003 to 2008 and from 2012 to 2014 for Union Ansfelden , with whom he was Austrian team champion in 2005 and 2007 . Babula has been playing for Szombathelyi MÁV Haladás VSE in the Hungarian NB I. Szabó László csoport since 2008 . In the Polish team championship he played for WASKO HetMaN Szopienice in 2009 and 2011 . In the Slovak Extra League, Babula played for the ŠK Medea Martin in the 1997/98 season , for the ŠK Softip Rajecké Teplice from 2002 to 2004 , and for the ŠK Liptov from 2004 to 2006 , with which he became Slovak team champion in 2005 , in the 2008 season / 09 for TJ INBEST Dunajov and from 2009 to 2012 for the ŠK Prievidza , with which he became champion in 2010 , he also competed in the European Club Cup in 1995 for the ŠK Slovan Bratislava . He has been playing for REINTER Humenné since the 2015/16 season .
