Tomáš Polák (born May 24, 1974 in Brno ) is a Czech chess player .

Life

In 1991 Tomáš Polák won the International German Youth Championship in Altensteig . He received the grandmaster title in 2000 . Polák won the Czech championship in 2007, and in 2008 he won silver.

Polák won or occupied top places in several tournaments: I. place in Olomouc (1997), I.-III. Place in Balaguer (2000), I.-V. Place at the Neckar Open in Deizisau (2001), I.-III. Place in Split (2003), I. place in Split (2005), I.-II. Place in Brno (2003, 2005), I.-III. Place in Paks (2004) and I.-X. Place at the ZMD Open in Dresden (2007).

In February 2015 it was ranked 14th in the Czech Republic's Elo ranking.

National team

Polák took part with the Czech national team in the 1998 and 2000 Chess Olympiads and the 2007 European Team Championship.

In the Czechoslovak team championship, Polák played for ŠK Univerzita Brno from 1990 to 1992. In the Czech Extraliga , he played for ŠK Dům armády Prague from 1992 to 2000 , with whom he became champions in 1996 , 1997 and 1999 and in 1996 and 1997 at European Club Cup participated from 2000 to 2007 for ŠK Hagemann Opava , with whom he became champion in 2002 and 2004 , from 2007 to 2012 for ŠK Zlín and from 2012 to 2015 for TJ Zikuda Turnov . He played for ŠK Duras BVK from the 2015/16 season to the 2017/18 season, and has played for Moravská Slavia Brno since 2018 . In the German 1st Bundesliga he played for SV Werder Bremen in the 1999/2000 season , and in the Austrian Bundesliga from 2011 to 2013 for SK Zwettl . In Hungary, Polák has been playing for Szombathelyi MÁV Haladás VSE since 2008 . In the Slovakian Extraliga Polák played in the 1992/93 season for the champions ELAI Bratislava , from 1995 to 1999 for the ŠK Medea Martin , in the 2002/03 season for the ŠK Softip Rajecké Teplice , in the 2008/09 season for the ŠK Trenčín , from 2009 to 2012 for the ŠK Prievidza , with which he became champion in 2010 and took part in the European Club Cup, in the 2017/18 season for Slovan Commander and since 2018 for the ŠK AQUAMARIN Podhájska .

Private

Tomáš Polák is the son of Marta Poláková (née Sedláčková), who took part in the 1966 Women's Chess Olympiad in Oberhausen as a reserve player and won the II.-III. Place at the women's championship in Czechoslovakia.
