Miroslav Filip (* 27. October 1928 in Prague , † 27. April 2009 ) was a Czech Chess - Grandmaster .
Chess career
In 1953 Miroslav Filip became International Master . In 1954 he was in Oslo on the top board of the Czechoslovak team student world champion and 1955 grandmaster.
In the 1950s and 1960s he was among the world's best and played twice in the Candidates Tournament : in Amsterdam in 1956 he was eighth, in Curaçao in 1962 seventh. He was twice one of the ten best players in the world. At the 1970 interzonal tournament in Palma, he only finished 20th. For over 20 years he was a supporter of the selection of Czechoslovakia and played from 1952 to 1974 in all twelve Chess Olympiads , three of them on the first board. At the Olympics he played a total of 194 games and scored 114 points (58.76%). Filip also played three times (from 1957 to 1970) for his country in the European Team Championship and won three medals: gold in 1970 for his individual performance on the second board, and bronze with the team and silver on the first board in 1957.
In 1950, 1952 and 1954 Filip won the individual championship in Czechoslovakia. He has also done very well in many international tournaments: He tied for first place in Prague in 1956 and won in Marienbad in 1960, Buenos Aires in 1961 and Bern in 1975.
Miroslav Filip had a doctorate in law. In the early 1980s he ended his active career and worked as a chess journalist and publicist. Filip headed the chess section of the Prague sports daily Denik Sport . In the early 1990s, Filip worked for some time at the Altensteig chess high school. He finished sixth in the choice of the best Czechoslovak / Czech chess player in history. He was a referee six times in a competition for the world championship.
His best historical rating before the rating was introduced was 2677 in March 1962.
