The title of Swedish team champion has been awarded in the Allsvenskan since 1951 . In the first three events, the title was played in the knockout system , from 1953 to 1967 in a tournament of four teams played over a weekend. In 1953 the title of Swedish team champion was played twice, with Stockholm Södra SS winning both the last event in the old mode and the first in the new mode. Since the 1968/69 season, the title has been played in a league whose season begins in autumn and ends in spring. In 1968 the title of Swedish team champion was not played out, but the Swedish Chess Federation lists the Wasa SK, who became Swedish team champion in the 1968/69 season, both as champion of the year 1968 and as champion of the year 1969. Initially, the two-track (in the 1968/69 season four-track) Division I was the top division until it was replaced by the Elitserien in the 1987/88 season .
