Division I (chess) 1977/78

The 1977/78 season was the 9th season of the Allsvenskan in chess.

Events

The preliminary round competitions took place on October 16 and 30, November 13 and 27, 1977, January 15, February 5 and February 26, 1978.

Division I Norra

Wasa SK and SK Rockaden Stockholm dominated the northern relay with a five-point lead over third place. Södra SS Stockholm finished last as a climber from Division II and thus rose again directly. The rest of the league fought relegation, losing out to the second promoted Schacksällskapet Luleå .

Division I Södra

In the southern season, last year's champions Lunds ASK and SS Allians Skänninge secured the two places in the final tournament. Abandoned last place occupied the promoted from Division II Helsingborgs Schacksällskap , while the second relegation place was hard fought. Due to the poor number of board points, the second team of Lund ASK ultimately lost out to last year's climbers Schacksällskapet Manhem and SK Kamraterna .

Final tournament

The final tournament took place in Jönköping . The defending champion Lunds ASK started with a defeat against SS Allians Skänninge , but two victories against SK Rockaden Stockholm and Wasa SK were enough to successfully defend the title with a balanced board point account, as the two Stockholm clubs defeated Skänninge and split in a direct comparison.
