The Instituto Secular the Catequistas do Sagrado Coração de Jesus ( German : Secular Institute of catechists from the Sacred Heart of Jesus , Ukrain. : Світський Інститут Катехиток Серця Ісусового , Engl. : Secular Institute of catechists of the Sacred Heart of Jesus ) was established in 1940 by Father Cristóforo Myskiw OSBM (1905–1973) was founded in Prudentópolis , Brazil , and in 1971 was recognized as a secular institute of papal law .

Member of the UGKK

The secular institute is an institute of consecrated life and has been recognized by canon law as a secular institute. The institute is affiliated to the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGKK) and practices the Byzantine rite , for which reason it has also been assigned to the Congregation for the Eastern Churches . It is also a registered secular institute of the United States Conference of Secular Institutes.

The founder

Father Cristóforo Myskiw was a religious priest of the Basilian of St. Josaphat and looked after Ukrainian emigrants in Prudentópolis. The immigrants were not allowed to practice their Byzantine rite in the churches , schools and public institutions of Brazil and to hold their services in their mother tongue . Out of this situation, Father Cristóforo decided to found a community of believers in which the members can live in the midst of the world without differences from fellow believers, cultivate their language , practice the Ukrainian-Greek faith and preach the Gospel to other people should.

Way of life and spirituality

The members of the secular institute live in open communities, they do not wear religious clothes and maintain social and societal connections. In following Jesus they seek perfection , love for their neighbor and the Holy Eucharist is their greatest good, which they should strive for. The members have completed vocational training . They live in harmony with the teaching of the Church and are willing to carry out the Eastern Rite of the Ukrainian-Greek-Catholic Church. The field of work includes the implementation of conferences, care tasks, retreats and catechesis . Members include women and priests who have taken a religious vow according to the evangelical councils .
