Division I (chess) 1978/79

The 1978/79 season was the 10th season of the Allsvenskan in chess.

Events

The preliminary round competitions took place on October 22, November 12, December 3, 1978, January 14, February 4 and 25, and March 18, 1979.

Division I Norra

In the northern season, SK Rockaden Stockholm prevailed. Second place in the final tournament went to Solna Schacksällskap , while Wasa SK (last season winner) was left behind in third place. The Vällingby Schacksällskap and KH Allians-72 were promoted from Division II . While Vällingby reached relegation, KH Allians-72 had to relegate together with the Hägersten SK .

Division I Södra

In the southern season the field was close together, only one team point difference separated the first from sixth place. The two newcomers Jönköpings Schacksällskap and Åstorps Schacksällskap secured the two places in the final tournament, while last year's champion Lunds ASK came home empty-handed in fourth. The SS Allians Skänninge (in the previous year still a participant in the final tournament) and the Schacksällskapet Manhem landed on the relegation places .

Final tournament

The final tournament took place in Linköping from April 6th to 8th . The Solna Schacksällskap , the Jönköpings Schacksällskap and the Åstorps Schacksällskap all defeated the SK Rockaden Stockholm and scored one victory and one defeat in a direct comparison, so the board points had to decide. Solna was half a board point ahead of Jönköping and 3.5 board points ahead of Åstorp, making it the Swedish team champion.
