Division I (chess) 1976/77

The 1976/77 season was the 8th season of the Allsvenskan in chess .

Events

The preliminary round competitions took place on October 17, November 14, December 5, 1976, January 16, February 6 and 27, and March 20, 1977.

Division I Norra

In the northern relay the field was close together and in the end the gap between second and seventh place was only two points. The two qualifying places for the final tournament went to SK Rockaden Stockholm and Wasa SK , last year's season winner Vällingby Schacksällskap and the climber from Division II SK SASS had to relegate , while fellow climber Hägersten SK managed to stay in the league.

Division I Södra

In the southern season, last year's champions Lunds ASK and Lundby Schacksällskap secured the two places in the final tournament by a clear margin. From Division II , the second team of Lunds ASK and Gothenburg SK Kamraterna had risen, both of which reached relegation, while Jönköpings Schacksällskap and SK Kamraterna Trollhättan had to relegate .

Final tournament

The final tournament took place in Borås from March 25th to 27th . The defending champion Lunds ASK started with a defeat against Lundby Schacksällskap , but two wins against SK Rockaden Stockholm and Wasa SK were enough to successfully defend their title, as Lundby was defeated by Wasa SK in the last round and Lund had the better board point account.
