Superettan (chess)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Superettan is the second highest division in Swedish team chess . It was introduced for the 2007/08 season.

Organizational form

The Superettan consists of 10 teams who compete in a simple round-robin tournament. The final placement is determined first by the number of team points (two points for a win, one point for a draw, no point for a loss), then the number of board points (one point for a winning game, half a point for a draw game, no point for a losing game). The first two rise to the Elitserien , but teams from clubs that are already represented in the Elitserien are not eligible for promotion. The last two are relegated to Division I ; the winners of the four seasons of Division 1 play in a qualification from the two promotion places to the Superettan (until the 2011/12 season, the last four were relegated from the Superettan and the winners of the seasons of Division I directly to the Superettan). The team line-ups must be based on the Elo rating, but a player may only be placed two boards higher or lower. A team may use a maximum of two foreigners per competition. The cooling-off time is 90 minutes for the first 40 moves and 30 minutes until the end of the game; From the first move on, each player also receives a time credit of 30 seconds per move until the end of the game.

  • 2009: With the withdrawal of Skara Schacksällskap from the Elitserien, the Superettan had another promotion place available, which went to fourth-placed Eksjö - Aneby -Alliansen (the second team from SK Rockaden Stockholm, who were not eligible for promotion, landed in third place).
  • 2011: Since the Elitserien was reduced from 12 to 10 teams for the 2011/12 season , only one team rose to SK Rockaden Umeå.
  • 2018: With the withdrawals of Malmö AS and SK Team Viking from the Elitserien, the Superettan had two more promotion places available, which went to third-placed SK Rockaden Umeå and fourth-placed Schack 08 Norrköping .
