Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller
Arnold Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller (born July 13, 1913 in Hellerup ; † April 16, 2012 Copenhagen ) was a Danish shipowner and industrialist .
Career
After the death of his father Arnold Peter Møller in June 1965, he took over the management of the family-owned shipping company and managed the company as director until 1993. Until 2003 he was its chairman of the board. He built the AP Møller-Mærsk Group into the largest company in Scandinavia and the largest container ship shipping company in the world. He has three daughters who are involved in the company: Leise Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller (* 1941), Kirsten Mærsk Mc-Kinney Olufsen (* 1944) and Ane Mærsk Mc-Kinney Uggla (* 1948).
The expansion under his leadership affected the entire shipping sector, such as the consolidation of liner services, entry into container shipping in 1974, construction and operation of our own container terminals, entry into offshore technology in 1967, product tankers and gas tankers, shipbuilding such as the expansion and modernization of the Lindö Odense Yard , acquisition and modernization of the Volkswerft Stralsund in Stralsund , oil production since 1967, establishment of the Mærsk Air airline in 1969, establishment of supermarket chains such as Dansk Supermarked A / S , Netto A / S , electrical industry, car parts production, plastics industry, construction of a container factory in Tinglev 1988.
He was the holder of the Danish Elephant Order and chairman of the AP Møller og Hustru Chastine Mc-Kinney Møllers Fond til almene Formaal (AP Møllers and wife Chastine Mc-Kinney Møllers Foundation for charitable purposes), the richest private foundation in Denmark, whose assets in May 2005 was estimated at 100 billion crowns . With money from this foundation, Møller had an opera house built in Copenhagen , which was criticized for Møller's personal choice of furnishings and architecture .
In 2006 the foundation donated a community school with upper secondary school to the Danish minority in southern Schleswig . The community school was opened on September 1st, 2008 as AP Møller Skolen by Queen Margrethe II and Schleswig-Holstein's Prime Minister Peter Harry Carstensen in Schleswig . Alongside Duborg-Skolen in Flensburg, it is the second Danish community school with upper secondary school in Germany. In 2009 the Düppeler Mühle , which has been used as a museum since 1995 and is a Danish national symbol, was renovated with funds from the foundation .
Forbes magazine listed him as number 90 of the richest people in the world in 2005. Møller was considered by far the richest inhabitant of Denmark.
The type ship of the Triple E class , the largest type of container ship in the world, was named after him in 2013.
