Băile Tuşnad ( German Bad Tuschnad , Hungarian Tusnádfürdő ) is a town in the Harghita district in Romania .
Geographical location
The small town is located in the eastern part of the Transylvania region and is one of the most famous health resorts in the country. The next larger city Miercurea Ciuc is about 30 km north of Tuşnad, south is the city of Sfântu Gheorghe , which is located in Covasna County.
history
In 1968 Băile Tuşnad was declared a city, making it the smallest city in the whole country. The population in 1996 was around 1859, of which 1796 were of Hungarian nationality. 95% of the inhabitants are Szekler , so Băile Tuşnad is one of the places with a particularly large proportion of this ethnic group.
A summer academy has been held in Tusnádfürdő since the late 1980s , at which Magyar intellectuals and Hungarian politicians come together.
