Tinglev ( German  Tingleff ) is a small Danish town with 2,746 inhabitants in the Aabenraa municipality , Region Syddanmark .

School and culture

Tinglev has three schools: a Danish, the German school Tingleff and the German secondary school Tingleff. It is the only German-speaking Efterskole . Every year she teaches about 75 students from the border area and from many parts of Europe and the world. The history, culture and languages ​​of both sides are conveyed in cross-border activities.

The Beredskabsstyrelsens Teknisk Skole trains managers municipal and state emergency services, including police and emergency services.

The Aabenraa Municipal Library has a branch library in Tinglev.

Tinglev Kirke is the center of Tinglev Sogn . The church has a winged altar from 1575, the only work of this kind in North Schleswig .

history

The geest around Tinglev was sparsely populated in the Middle Ages. Although individual estates and the monastery in Løgumkloster acquired some grit here, most of the municipality remained directly under sovereign administration. Tinglev belonged to the Schlux harde in the Tondern office , one of the largest sovereign districts in the Duchy of Schleswig . In 1872 the village of Wippel joined the municipality of Tingleff. From 1889 the entire parish formed its own district.

Only after the construction of the railway in 1864 did the poor Geestdorf gain considerable growth. In the referendum in 1920 there was a majority in favor of Germany in the municipality, but the majority of the northern voting zone I voted in Danish. The municipality of Tinglev was assigned to the Tønder Office . Between 1970 and 2007 Tinglev was the center of Tinglev Municipality . In 2007 it merged with the municipalities of Rødekro , Lundtoft , Bov and Aabenraa to form the new municipality of Aabenraa.

Economy and Transport

Tinglev is a traffic junction in North Schleswig. The station is on the Flensburg – Fredericia railway line and is a stop for all Eurocity and Intercity trains. The Sønderborg – Tinglev railway branches off here and is also used by intercity trains to and from Copenhagen . The Tønder – Tinglev railway, which opened in 1867, has been closed for passenger traffic since 1974 and for freight traffic since 2004. In 1988, AP Møller-Mærsk built a factory for sea ​​containers .

Tinglev is on primary route 8 from Tønder to Sønderborg and on secondary route 401 from Kruså / Flensburg to Løgumkloster . The European route 45 runs 10 km east.

With the 130,000 square meter DMEA Emergency Services College , the Danish disaster and civil protection authority Beredskabsstyrelsen operates one of the largest training facilities for authorities and organizations with security tasks (BOS) in Europe , on which German organizations and the EU civil protection mechanism also train.
