Padborg ( German Pattburg ) is a place and a border station in Jutland close to on the German side lying Flensburg . The place belongs to the Bov Sogn and lies with this in the district of the region Syddanmark (formerly Sønderjyllands Amt ) and in the municipality Aabenraa .

location

Padborg, which is part of Bov Sogn, is today structurally closely connected with the neighboring towns of Bov and Frøslev . The center of Padborg is located south of the municipality on the German-Danish border at the local train station. The Industrievej road, which runs parallel to the railway line from Germany to Denmark, marks the approximate border to neighboring Frøslev. The small Oldemorstoft , which separates the two places from one another, is located between Bov and Padborg in the north .

history

Originally Padborg was just an inn on Ochsenweg west of the parish village of Bov . The village came into being with the construction of the Flensburg – Fredericia railway in the 1860s.

Since its commissioning on July 15, 1901, the Padborg – Tørsbøl line to Sønderborg branched off here until it was closed ; thereby the place became a railway junction north of Flensburg .

The drawing of the German-Danish border in 1920 made Padborg a border town - initially the place was officially written as Paddeborg . The railway to Sønderborg lost its importance and in 1936 the Padborg – Tørsbøl section was closed. The importance as a road junction grew. The station was moved a little to the north and became a border station .

Infrastructure

Padborg has three kindergartens and three primary schools each (including a German kindergarten and a German school).

Industry

Padborg is the seat of Dangaard Telecom . The forwarding industry is still dominant. The older district east of the train station is a shopping area.

Northwest of Padborg is the 2.2 km long Padborg Park race track , on which various motor sport events take place on various weekends of the year. The highlights there are the “ Danish Touringcar Championship ” and the long-distance races of the “ Danish Endurance Championship ” lasting up to six hours.

The Kruså-Padborg airfield is adjacent to the site .

Depot

The Bahnbetriebswerk ( Danish Padborg remise ) has the largest turntable in Denmark with a diameter of 23.9 meters . The turntable, built in 1925, is still in use next to the one in Nykøbing Falster . It was completely renovated in 2017.
