Mikael Torpegaard (born May 8, 1994 in Gentofte Kommune ) is a Danish tennis player .
Career
College tennis
Mikael Torpegaard, who already played tennis very successfully on the junior tour - combined top ranking was 25th - and took part in all Junior Grand Slam tournaments in 2012 , decided to study at Ohio State University . There he has also been playing college tennis for the Ohio State Buckeyes since 2014 . He has already had some success in college tennis. With the college team, he secured the title at the Big Ten Men's Tennis Tournament in 2016 . At the NCAA Division I Tennis Championships he made it into the final, but failed to Mackenzie McDonald 3-6, 3-6 . In November of the same year he again advanced to the finals at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships and lost it to Michael Redlicki .
Professional tour
On the professional tour, Torpegaard initially only played tournaments on the third-class ITF Future Tour , on which he has won two singles and six doubles titles so far. Due to his success in college tennis, Torpegaard received a wildcard for the Challenger in Columbus in 2016 . In his first appearance on the Challenger Tour, he played his way straight to the final, which he played against the then world number 97. Benjamin Becker won in three sets. He could no longer build on this success and only reached a quarter-finals on the Challenger Tour. In doubles he has so far made three semi-finals. In both singles and doubles, he has not yet made it into the top 300 of the world rankings . His best single place was a 310th place, in doubles a 360th place. Due to his studies, he cannot take part in many professional tournaments and ended the year 2017 in individual in 729th place.
In 2014 Torpegaard made his debut against Cyprus for the Danish Davis Cup team . The following year he was nominated again and played both singles against the Spanish top players Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer . Overall, Torpegaard has an individual balance of 3: 3.
