Ishøj Kommune is a Danish municipality on the edge of the Køgebucht in the Hovedstaden region .

It lies between Denmark's second smallest municipality, Vallensbæk, at 9.50 km², and Brøndby Municipality in the east and Greve Municipality in the west.

The municipality is 26.50 km²; the seat of the administration is in Ishøj . The municipal reform on January 1, 2007 had no impact on Ishøj Kommune. Since this year, Ishøj itself has been considered part of the capital region Hovedstadsområdet , but not the rural parts of the municipality. Outside the closed settlement area, only 2,163 of the 22,989 inhabitants of the municipality live (as of January 1, 2020).

Ishøj is home to the Arken Art Museum, which opened in 1996 .

Ishøj Municipality has good transport links with Copenhagen, which is not far away, thanks to lines A and E of the S-Bahn from Køge and the E 20 / E 47 motorway .
