Dragør Kommune [ ˈdʀɑːwøːʔʀ ] is a Danish municipality in the Hovedstaden region on the southern tip of the island of Amager .

The municipality is 18.30 km², has 14,494 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) and includes the places Dragør and Søvang . The only neighboring municipality is Tårnby in the north, to the east and south the municipality is bounded by the Øresund , to the west by the Bay of Køge ( Køge Bugt ).

history

The municipality was formed on April 1, 1974 when Store Magleby and Dragør municipalities were merged. In the municipal reform in 2007 , the municipality was not taken even though it is less counts 20,000 inhabitants.

In the Middle Ages, Dragør was, along with Skanör-Falsterbo, an important place for fishing for herring during the Skåne Fair .

The following parish communities ( Danish : Sogn ) and localities with over 200 inhabitants ( byer according to the definition of the Danish statistical office ) are located in the municipality , with a registered population of zero the place had more than 200 inhabitants in the past. With the merger of Store Magleby Kommune and Dragør Kommune in 1974, Store Magleby was statistically assigned to Dragør.
