Dragør Kommune [ ˈdʀɑːwøːʔʀ ] is a Danish municipality in the Hovedstaden region on the southern tip of the island of Amager .
The municipality is 18.30 km², has 14,494 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) and includes the places Dragør and Søvang . The only neighboring municipality is Tårnby in the north, to the east and south the municipality is bounded by the Øresund , to the west by the Bay of Køge ( Køge Bugt ).
history
The municipality was formed on April 1, 1974 when Store Magleby and Dragør municipalities were merged. In the municipal reform in 2007 , the municipality was not taken even though it is less counts 20,000 inhabitants.
In the Middle Ages, Dragør was, along with Skanör-Falsterbo, an important place for fishing for herring during the Skåne Fair .

With the merger of Store Magleby Kommune and Dragør Kommune in 1974, Store Magleby was statistically assigned to Dragør.
