Rudersdal Kommune is a Danish municipality in the northeast of the island of Zealand . It was created on January 1, 2007 in the course of local government reform through the merger of the previous municipalities Søllerød in Københavns Amt and Birkerød in Frederiksborg Amt .
Rudersdal municipality has a total population of 56,728 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) and an area of 73.30 km². It is part of the Hovedstaden region . The seat of the administration is in the district of Holte . Rudersdal municipality is located in the northern suburbs of the Danish capital Copenhagen . The urban area of the former municipality center Søllerød is part of the capital region Hovedstadsområdet , but not the rural parts of the municipality and those belonging to Birkerød and Hørsholm .
