Rudersdal Kommune is a Danish municipality in the northeast of the island of Zealand . It was created on January 1, 2007 in the course of local government reform through the merger of the previous municipalities Søllerød in Københavns Amt and Birkerød in Frederiksborg Amt .

Rudersdal municipality has a total population of 56,728 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) and an area of 73.30 km². It is part of the Hovedstaden region . The seat of the administration is in the district of Holte . Rudersdal municipality is located in the northern suburbs of the Danish capital Copenhagen . The urban area of the former municipality center Søllerød is part of the capital region Hovedstadsområdet , but not the rural parts of the municipality and those belonging to Birkerød and Hørsholm .

^(c)Hørsholm is mainly located in the northeastern adjacent Hørsholm municipality of the same name ; the settlement area of the city also extends over the parish of Gammel Holte Sogn and parts of Birkerød Sogn and Vedbæk Sogn as well as into Karlebo Sogn of Fredensborg Municipality, which is north of Hørsholm Municipality .
