Hovedstadsområdet

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hovedstadsområdet ( German : the capital area ) is the contiguous settlement ( Danish : byområde ) around and including the municipality of Copenhagen , the capital of Denmark . It is by far the largest city ( Danish : by ) of the more than 1400 cities in Denmark . Its area covers around 400 km². Like all cities in Denmark, it is not an administrative unit , it is just a statistical term. Since the administrative district reform in 2007, the capital area has been almost entirely in the larger Hovedstaden region ; only Greve municipality is in the Sjælland region .

Historical development

Historically, Hovedstadsområdet was initially viewed by Danmarks Statistics as the entirety of several complete municipalities that were redefined at intervals. Thus, the area included to 1979 alongside Capital ( Copenhagen municipality , Frederiksberg Municipality and Gentofte Kommune ) the following 18 municipalities complete: Albertslund , Ballerup , Birkerød , Brøndby , Dragør , Farum , Gladsaxe , Glostrup , Herlev , Hvidovre , Hoje Taastrup , Hørsholm , Lyngby-Tårbæk , Rødovre , Søllerød , Tårnby , Vallensbæk and Værløse . On January 1, 1980 the following seven municipalities were added: Allerød , Fredensborg-Humlebæk , Greve , Ishøj , Karlebo , Ledøje-Smørum and Solrød .

On January 1, 1999, the definition of Hovedstadsområdet was adapted to that of all other byområder in the country. This reduced the population of Hovedstadsområdet from 1,379,413 on January 1, 1998 to 1,069,813 on January 1, 1999 and 40 new byområder were created , 12 of them with over 10,000 inhabitants. The municipalities of Allerød, Birkerød, Dragør, Farum, Fredensborg-Humlebæk, Greve, Horsholm, Høje-Taastrup, Ishøj, Karlebo and Værløse were completely eliminated from Hovedstadsområdet, Ballerup and Søllerød partially.

As of January 1, 2020, the municipalities of København, Frederiksberg, Albertslund, Brøndby, Gentofte, Gladsaxe, Glostrup, Herlev, Hvidovre, Lyngby-Taarbæk, Rødovre, Tårnby and Vallensbæk belong entirely to Hovedstadsområdet, and also parts of the Kommunen, Rudersdalerup and the villages of Ishøj By and Greve Strand By .

Alternative definition of the term

The Danish Ministry of the Environment is working in finger planning for a planning area, which is also called Hovedstadsområdet, with a much more comprehensive definition that includes the entire Hovedstaden region (excluding Bornholm ) plus the municipalities of Greve , Køge , Lejre , Roskilde , Solrød and Stevns .
