Roskilde Kommune is a Danish municipality on the island of Zealand . It was created on January 1, 2007 in the course of local government reform by merging the "old" Roskilde municipality with the previous municipalities of Gundsø and Ramsø , all in the Roskilde office .
Roskilde Municipality has a total population of 87,914 inhabitants (January 1, 2020) and an area of 211.80 km². It is part of the Sjælland region . The seat of the administration is in Roskilde .

Community partnerships
The Roskilde municipality maintains parish partnerships with:
- Ireland : Dublin (since 2008)
- Greenland : Kujalleq (partnership between the predecessor municipality Nanortalik and the old Roskilde municipality since 1996)
- Lithuania : Pasvalys (partnership with the former Gundsø municipality since the 1990s)
- Sweden : Vara (partnership with the former Ramsø municipality since the 1970s)
Accordingly, three of the eleven official partnerships that the municipalities of Gundsø, Ramsø and Roskilde had with other locations survived the municipal reform of 2007. Via the MECINE (Medium Cities In Europe) network, the Roskilde municipality is still with Joensuu in Finland and Linköping in Sweden and Tønsberg in Norway.
