Svedala is a locality ( Tatort ) and capital of the municipality of the same name in the Swedish province of Skåne län . The place is 18 kilometers southeast of Malmö on the European route 65 .

Since 2015, the place of the crime has been called Svedala och Sjödiken, after it merged with the Sjödiken (438 inhabitants in 2010) to the north.

Svedala was built at the intersection of two railway lines that connect Malmö with Ystad and Lund with Trelleborg (the latter has now been closed and dismantled). This favorable situation led to the settlement of several industrial companies at the end of the 19th century. The Malmö – Ystad railway line was electrified in 1996. The direct connection over the Öresund Bridge to Copenhagen , opened in 2000, was discontinued on December 9, 2017.

In 1899 the place received limited administrative powers (Municipalsamhälle) and in 1919 it received the status of a minority town (Köping). Due to the administrative restructuring of the country in the early 1970s, this title is meaningless today.

Former coat of arms

Coat of arms of the minor city

The earlier coat of arms of the minor city differs from the current coat of arms of the municipality. A blue leaf of the field maple , which is surrounded by a red gear wheel, is shown on a yellow background . The area around Svedala is one of the few places in Sweden where the field maple is found. The gear referred to the mechanical engineering industry in town.
