Marianne Bruus Jelved (born September 5, 1943 in Charlottenlund, Gentofte Kommune ) is a Danish politician of the social liberal party Det Radikalische Venstre (RV). She was a parliamentary group leader and political spokeswoman for many years . On December 6, 2012, she returned to the cabinet as Minister of Culture .

Life

Jelved studied at the pedagogical seminar in Hellerup and worked as a Danish teacher from 1967 to 1987 .

Jelved has been a member of the Folketing since 1987 with a short break in 1993/94 . There she took over the parliamentary group chairmanship of the RV from 1988–1993, 2001–2007 and again 2011–2012. At the same time she filled the important post of political spokeswoman.

Jelved was Minister of Economic Affairs in the governments of Nyrup Rasmussen I , Nyrup Rasmussen II , Nyrup Rasmussen III and Nyrup Rasmussen IV from 1993 to 2001 , and since 1994 has also been Minister for Nordic Cooperation.

In 2006, the RV claimed to have Jelved elected head of government at the next opportunity. After internal party quarrels about this unpromising power strategy, Jelved left the party leadership to the former Minister of Education Margrethe Vestager on June 15, 2007, but remained active as a training policy spokeswoman for the parliamentary group.

With the return of the RV to the government in 2011, Jelved again took over the chairmanship of the parliamentary group, while the ministerial posts were preferably distributed among the party's young talents. At the same time, she worked as Deputy Speaker of Parliament in the Folketing. After her party friend Uffe Elbæk resigned as Minister of Culture, she took over this post on December 6, 2012.
