Birthe Johanne Sparrevohn Rønn Hornbech (born October 18, 1943 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish politician and member of the Folketing for the right-wing liberal party Venstre . From 2007 to 2011 she was Minister for Refugees , Immigration , Integration and the Church.

Hornbech studied law at the University of Copenhagen and passed the exam in 1971. She then worked for the Roskilde Police , where she was promoted to Vice-President of the Police in 1981 (Danish Vicepolitimester ). In 1984 she was elected to the Folketing for the first time.

Hornbech was always considered a contentious politician and gained popularity through her self-confident demeanor. Several times she came into conflict with her party leadership. For example, she voted against stronger video surveillance in public spaces. After the 2007 Folketing election , she became a minister, although she had previously turned down such a post several times.

In early 2011, as Minister of Integration, she got at the center of a public dispute when it became clear that, with her knowledge, young stateless Palestinians had been illegally denied Danish citizenship . In early March 2011, she was released from office. In 2014 she was one of the critics of party leader Lars Løkke Rasmussen , whom she asked to resign after a series of financial irregularities through the media.
