Piet Dickentman became world champion of professional stayers in Copenhagen.

The 4th UCI Track World Championships took place on August 16 and 20 to 22, 1903 on the Velodrome in Ordrup near Copenhagen .

Racing drivers from nine nations took part in the world championships. The competitions were held daily in front of around 8,000 spectators, including the Danish family of the crown prince.

In the title fight for the amateur sprinters, there was a scandal and tumult due to various protests by the drivers. The final was first won by the German Walter Engelmann, who did not receive the wreath at the award ceremony. The run was repeated on September 26 in London before a football game began, but only between Reed and Benyon; Engelmann had to cancel his participation for professional reasons and came away empty-handed.
