The 1934 UCI Road World Championships took place in Leipzig on August 18 .

Racing action

The route led over a circuit of 9.4 kilometers, which the professionals had to ride 24 times. The circuit was quite flat and was called the “disk wood course” after a small piece of forest. The amateurs drove the lap 12 times.

In the professional road race, 26 drivers were at the start, 15 of whom made it to the finish. The Belgian Karel Kaers won the sprint race and became the youngest world champion to date at the age of 20 years, two months and 15 days. Until then he had mainly achieved success in the amateur and junior class. In 1934 he achieved an hourly average of 37.994 kilometers. The best German was Gerhard Huschke from Berlin, son of Adolf Huschke and father of Thomas Huschke , in fourth place. The other two German starters were Ludwig Geyer (12th) and Kurt Stöpel (13th). Stöpel, like the two-time Tour winner Antonin Magne , had been pushed into a ditch in the eagerness of the final sprint, only reached the destination in an accompanying car due to a defective wheel, but was placed in 13th place.

The 18-year-old Dutchman Kees Pellenaars became world champion of the amateurs . He drove an average of 41.5 km / h. None of the German starters finished.
