Helmer Boelsen

Helmer Boelsen [ ˈboːlzən ] (born January 13, 1925 in Frankfurt am Main ; † September 30, 2015 ) was a German sports journalist .

Helmer Boelsen worked as a sports journalist since 1947. From 1963 to 1965 he was the editor of Sport-Illustrierte in Munich , at the UCI World Championships in 1966 in Cologne , Frankfurt and at the Nürburgring as the press officer. From 1968 to 1971 he worked as a sports editor at United Press International in Frankfurt. He then worked as a sports editor at Frankfurter Rundschau until he retired . In addition to his work as a journalist, he has published books on cycling and football. Most recently he was active as a freelance journalist.

Between 1951 and 1999 Boelsen took part in 45 cycling world championships, accompanied the Tour de France 30 times and the Tour of Germany 15 times . He was also on site as a reporter at the Olympic Games and World and European Championships in football . For many years he was also responsible for the press work for the race around the Henninger Tower ; Together with the organizer Hermann Moos , who has since passed away , he wrote the book Two Brothers on Tandem .
