Josy Kraus

Josy Kraus (born December 11, 1908 in Grevenmacher ; † December 8, 2001 in Bettembourg ) was a Luxembourg cyclist .

He began his career at the VS Dommeldange club . Josy Kraus was a professional cyclist from 1933 to 1950. During these years he was Luxembourg champion seven times, three times in cyclo-cross races (as an independent ) and four times in the independent road races . In 1932 he won around Cologne . At the UCI Road World Championships in Leipzig in 1934 , he finished seventh in the professional race after finishing eleventh at the World Championships the year before. Unique in the history of Luxembourg cycling was his streak of victories in cyclo-cross races in the 1929/1930 season. He won all the races organized by the Luxembourg Association.

Even before the Second World War , Kraus began successfully to drive stayer and derny races . In 1938 he started as a stalker at the World Railroad Championships in Amsterdam . However, the pacemaker Felicien Van Ingelghem caused a serious fall in which he and the Belgian August Meuleman and Kraus were seriously injured.

In 1935 and 1936 Kraus also started in the Tour de France , but both times gave up early (each on the 6th stage of the tour). In 1946 he ended his career.

Professional

Kraus opened a taxi company after finishing his active cycling career.
