It is still uncertain whether the 87th UCI Road World Championships 2020 will be held (as of August 29, 2020).
It was originally planned to take place in Vicenza , Italy , but funding could not be secured there. Then they should take place from September 20 to 27, 2020 in the Swiss towns of Aigle and Martigny . On August 12th of the year the world title fights were canceled due to the extension of the regulations by the Swiss Federal Council for mass events until the end of September due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Switzerland . These world championships were supposed to be the eleventh road world championships in Switzerland, but this would be the first time in the French-speaking part of the countryhas been carried out. The competitions should primarily take place in the Rhone Valley . The headquarters of the World Cycling Association UCI is located in Aigle .
The world association UCI wants to make a decision by September 1, 2020 on whether and where the world championships will take place. The region of Tuscany and Imola have now expressed their interest as possible organizers, and according to media reports, the Dutch province of Drenthe as well . The French cycling federation FFC announced at the end of August that it was working with the Haute-Saône department in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region on a plan for hosting the World Cup on the Planche des Belles Filles .
