The 1936 UCI Road World Championships took place on September 5th in Bern, Switzerland.

Race course

The professional drivers had to cover 218.4 kilometers, the amateurs 145 kilometers. In the professional category, Frenchman Antonin Magne won , finishing a solo trip with a lead of over nine minutes. He achieved an hourly average of 37.1 kilometers. The German driver Georg Umbenhauer came in 9th in the main field that was beaten off . In the amateurs category, the Swiss won a double thanks to Edgar Buchwalder and Gottlieb Weber . Buchwalder won the sprint from a mass finish by eleven seconds. He achieved an hourly average of 36.4 kilometers. Fritz Scheller came in 9th as the best German amateur, 55 seconds behind.
