Willy Schertle

Willy Schertle (* 1920 in Stuttgart ; † unknown) was a German racing cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

Schertle (often Willi Schertle in contemporary literature) became German champion in the sprint of amateurs and in tandem races in 1940 (with Fritz Greiner as a partner). In 1941 he lost to Werner Bunzel from Berlin in the final of the championship race . After the Second World War he was able to build on his achievements on the railway . In 1947 he again won the German sprint championship in front of Willy Trost , his long-term competitor at the time. He also won the championship in the 1000 meter time trial . In 1948 he won the silver medal, in 1950 it was bronze. Schertle started for the association RV Stuttgardia Stuttgart 1886 eV
