Werner Loew

Werner Löw (born August 28, 1935 in Nuremberg ) is a former German racing cyclist .

Werner Löw started organized cycling at the Nuremberg Touring Club when he was 14. In 1951 he moved to RC Herpersdorf . For Herpersdorf he was German youth champion in road team driving in 1952 and 1953. Also in 1953 he was German youth champion in the track sprint. In the men's category, Löw was three times German champion in tandem races : in 1954 and 1955 together with Fritz Neuser and in 1956 with Holger Hermann . In 1957 he finished second again with Neuser.

Löw experienced a great disappointment when the Association of German Cyclists, despite his success with Fritz Neuser, did not register him, but Neuser together with Günther Ziegler from Schweinfurt for the tandem race at the Olympic Games in Melbourne . With Holger Hermann as a new partner, Löw retaliated at the German Championships in 1956, when both of them beat the Olympians Neuser-Ziegler in the final in the 2000 m tandem race. In addition to his successful track starts, Löw also continued to compete in smaller road races.

At the age of 22, Löw ended his sporting career after a serious fall. He remained connected to his club RC Herpersdorf as a club official and trainer. After its bankruptcy, Löw got involved in the successor club VfR-Herpersdorf.
