Michael Becker (born July 21, 1945 in Berlin ) is a former German cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

Becker had been a cyclist since 1954, when he became a member of the RV Britz Neukölln club. At first he was an art cyclist and won the student championship in single art cycling in Berlin. In 1962 he found his way to racing when he attended a course at the Schöneberg Velodrome under the direction of Hans Dasch . He then joined the BRC Zugvogel association in 1901.

Becker had his greatest successes in time trial competitions . He made his first appearance in 1967 when he won the race around Dortmund . In 1968 came third place in the German championship in the team time trial and third place in the race around Cologne . At that time he started for the Berliner RC Zugvogel association in 1901 . A year later he won the traditional Rund race in Berlin ( West ) and came second in the German championship in two-man team driving with Manfred Mücke as his partner. The series of his championship titles in the team time trial began in 1970. In 1972, 1974 and 1976 he was also able to win the gold medal in the championships. In the team pursuit on the track he was hardly less successful, from 1972 to 1974 he also won the title, first with the Berliner RC Grün-Weiß Derby in 1921 , then from 1974 with the Berlin RC Opel student in 1921 . In 1975 he won again Rund in Berlin. In the team competitions he regularly won other championship races until 1977. In 1970 he won the Veith Pirelli Street Prize on the course in Munich , where the 1972 Olympic street race was held. The victory was very important to him as numerous national teams used the race to get to know the circuit. In 1978 he was able to win the traditional Rollberg race in Berlin-Kreuzberg , which was also his last major success.
