Jan Schaffrath (born September 17, 1971 in Berlin ) is a former German cyclist and sports director .

Career

The 1.87 m tall Schaffrath began his career as an amateur at the TSC Berlin club and became a professional athlete in 1997 and then drove for the T-Mobile team for eight years until 2005 . During this time he competed three times in the Vuelta a España , twice in the Giro d'Italia and once in the Tour de France . Schaffrath was considered a typical water carrier and important helper of his friend and teammate Erik Zabel at the time .

Professional

After the 2005 season, Jan Schaffrath ended his active career and on January 1, 2006 became sporting director for Team Milram . After only one year he returned to his old cycling team and worked there until the team was dissolved in 2011. He then moved along with several riders together for the Belgian team Omega Pharma-Quick-Step .

Schaffrath also looks after the elite selection of the Association of German Cyclists at road world championships and the Olympic Games .
