August Rieke

August Rieke (born May 26, 1935 in Oetinghausen ) is a former German track cyclist .

Rieke, who was organized at RC Zugvogel in Bielefeld , achieved his successes without exception as an amateur . He was twice German champion in tandem races , in 1959 in West Berlin on the Schöneberg Velodrome with Wilhelm Bulk and in 1960 with Rolf Roggendorf . Also in 1960 he took part in the track cycling world championships in Leipzig , but could not qualify for the final. In the same year he became the national runner-up in the 1000-meter time trial and was third in the standing championship for amateurs in 1961 and in the sprint 1962.

In 1960 Rieke took part in the Olympic Games in Rome , started in the sprint and was eliminated in the quarter-finals.
