Peter Grünke

Peter Grünke (* 1958 in Bad Lauchstädt ) is a former German cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

He started cycling at BSG Buna Schkopau . Grünke was a track cyclist and active in the GDR. His specialty was the 1000 meter time trial . In 1979 and 1980 he became East German champion in this discipline. His victory in 1979, when he won well ahead of world champion Lothar Thoms , was a surprise. The victory earned him participation in the world championships. In 1981 and 1982 he won the bronze medal in the victories of Maic Malchow and Emanuel Raasch . On the cycling track of Werner Seelenbinder hall in Berlin he won in 1979 the title in the time trial and the team pursuit in the GDR Winter track championships. At the summer railway championships he won the bronze medal with his foursome. In 1979 he started at the UCI track world championships and finished 4th in the time trial. He was a member of the GDR national team until 1983 and won the International Mocca Cup in Budapest in 1983 against drivers who finished on the podium at the subsequent World Cup. Grünke started for the TSC Berlin club . In 1985 he ended his career.
