Helmut Lehmann (cyclist)

Helmut Lehmann (* 1935 in Chemnitz ) is a former German cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

Lehmann was a specialist in short-distance races on the track . In 1956 he became the GDR champion in the 1000-meter time trial . In this discipline he was vice-champion in 1957 behind Rolf Nitzsche from Berlin , in 1955 he was third in the championship when Heinz Drescher won the title. In 1955 he was able to take second place behind Jürgen Simon in the GDR championship in the sprint . In 1959 he won the silver medal in a tandem race with Jürgen Simon. He started for SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt .
