Jürgen Schütze

Jürgen Schütze (born March 3, 1951 in Arnsdorf ; † September 6, 2000 ) was a German track cyclist .

Jürgen Schütze began cycling at “Dynamo Dresden-Nord”, where Axel Peschel and Werner Otto began their careers under the aegis of Gerhard Koppel . He was already considered a great talent in adolescence, which he underpinned with five GDR championship titles in youth and many other medal wins in children's and youth spartakiads (two titles, in the sprint and in the time trial) and championships in the youth field. In 1968 he was delegated to SC Dynamo Berlin , where he concentrated on track cycling with trainers Rolf Nitzsche and Siegfried Köhler . As a teenager, he took part in the UCI Men 's Track World Championships in 1969 . Twice, in 1972 and 1973, Schütze was GDR champion in the 1 km time trial after becoming national runner-up in this discipline in 1970 and 1971.

Jürgen Schütze started at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich and won the bronze medal in the time trial.

Professional

After finishing his active cycling career, Schütze studied economics in Berlin-Karlshorst and was then employed by SV Dynamo . After the reunification he worked as an independent financial service provider. At SC Berlin , he continued to be involved in cycling.
