Erhard Hancke

Erhard Hancke (born September 14, 1941 in Markkleeberg near Leipzig ) is a former cyclist from the GDR .

Athletic career

Hancke began his sporting career as a swimmer , athlete and soccer player . At the age of 17 he switched to cycling . Here he celebrated 20 successes on the road as a teenager , was Leipzig district champion in individual, with the team and in cross .

In 1961 Hancke transferred to SG Dynamo Gera and drove his first races on the track . In the same year, the 176 cm tall athlete won the GDR championship title in the 1000 m time trial . Over the same distance, he drove a GDR record of 1: 09.5 minutes in 1963 (which was also the world's best performance for the year) and again won the GDR championship in 1966. Already starting for SC Leipzig , Hancke became vice-GDR champion in the 4,000 m team pursuit in 1963 and 1964 - in 1963 together with Helmut Hochschild , Dieter Hillert , Dieter Zuchold and in 1964 with Hochschild, Turowski, Dieter Zuchold. In 1967 he won a GDR runner-up in the two-man team driving with Hans-Jürgen Klunker .

At the Track World Championships in Amsterdam in 1967 , Hancke started in the 1000 m time trial. In a starting field of 20 drivers, he finished 14th with a time of 1: 10.95 minutes. He was 2.22 seconds behind the winner Niels Fredborg . The year before, he was 11th in the title fights. Hancke's best international result was fourth place in the team pursuit at the UCI-Bahn World Championships in 1965 and also in 1966 with an identical team of Rudolf Franz , Siegfried Köhler and Wolfgang Schmelzer .

Hancke won several victories on the Werner-Seelenbinder-Halle track in Berlin , including the 1965 International Omnium Championship with his partner Hans-Jürgen Klunker , and the 1966 "International Two-Team Championship" with his regular partner Helmut Hochschild.

Later, Hancke drove stayer races . He won the Grand Prix of the city of Leipzig and was third in the GDR championship in 1970.

Hancke celebrated his greatest success on the road in 1966 with a victory in the one-day race Berlin – Angermünde – Berlin . In 1968 he took third place at the GDR International Cycling Week . In terms of criteria, he was able to record eight victories on the road.

Professional

After the end of his active career, Hancke worked as a youth coach in the Leipzig district . From 1990 until his 65th birthday he was the regional association trainer for cycling in Saxony. In 2004 he was co-founder of the RFC Markkleeberg and is (as of January 2013) president of the association.
