The SG Dynamo Gera was a German police sports association from Gera . The home of the football department was the Artur-Becker-Stadion (today Stadion am Steg ), which seats 7,000. The most prominent Dynamo member in Gera - but at Dynamo Gera-Mitte - was professional cyclist Olaf Ludwig , three-time stage winner of the Tour de France .

Football section

Dynamo Gera was one of the few higher-class football teams of the Dynamo sports association , which, unlike Dynamo Erfurt , Dynamo Dresden or Dynamo Frankfurt, did not have to move to other cities after it was founded . In 1960 Dynamo Gera appeared for the first time in the fourth-class district league Gera , in which the SG was active for almost the next 30 years.

Already in their opening season, Dynamo failed just because of progress Greiz on promotion to the II. GDR league . After a brief relegation, Dynamo was able to establish itself permanently in the top division of the Gera district from 1970 . In 1977 Dynamo succeeded in advancing to the GDR league behind the second representation of BSG Wismut Gera, which was not entitled to promotion , from which Gera relegated without a chance with Landbau Bad Langensalza and Motor Steinach . The direct resurgence failed after Motor Zeulenroda , in the following period Dynamo occupied the front midfield without exception.

The 1989/90 season should be the last season for the East Thuringians. After the qualification for the Landesliga Thuringia was clearly missed, the club withdrew from the game. Parts of the team found themselves at Police-SV Gera , later at VfB Gera .
