history

Predecessor clubs (SV Zeulenroda, BSG Stahl Zeulenroda, BSG Motor Zeulenroda, FV Zeulenroda)

In 1910, the Zeulenroda sports club was the city's first football club. After the end of the Second World War and the founding of the GDR , BSG Stahl Zeulenroda was founded in Zeulenroda, renamed BSG Motor Zeulenroda for the 1952/53 season . In 1953 the expansion of the "Karl-Marx-Sportstätte", today's Waldstadion, was completed. After the ascent with trainer Gerd Bürger was successful, Motor Zeulenroda played in the 1979/80 season in the league , the second highest division in the GDR, but rose again after one season in season E as the penultimate. Gerd Bürger's son Henning Bürger also played in his youth in Zeulenroda. In 1990 the BSG Motor, renamed FV Zeulenroda, came second in the district league at the end of the season and thus rose to the newly formed Thuringian regional league . In the 1990/1991 season, an average of 850 spectators saw the promoted team with 71:11 goals and 45: 7 points unbeaten Thuringia champion and the then third highest German division, the Oberliga Nordost . In the Thuringian State Cup , the team made it to the final, but was defeated there in Gera by SV 1910 Kahla 3: 4 afterwards. 1994/1995 was the most successful season in the history of FV Zeulenroda. The league team finished 4th in the table at the end of the season, striker Robby Boucherifi was the top scorer of the season south with 19 goals and the Thuringian indoor championship title was successfully defended. In the Thuringian State Cup, the FVZ reached the final for the second time, which was lost in Weida with 0: 1 against the regional league club FC Carl Zeiss Jena after defeating the Jena team 2: 1 in the semi-finals in the Waldstadion at home. Because of the Jena promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga , FV Zeulenroda took part in the first main round of the DFB Cup as Thuringian vice cup winner in the 1995/96 season . On August 25, 1995, the Zeulenrodaer lost this game in front of a home crowd of around 2,500 spectators with 0: 1 against the second division club FSV Zwickau . It remained the only DFB Cup game in Zeulenroda football history. After a 4-2 final victory over the amateurs of FC Carl Zeiss Jena, the FVZ became Thuringian indoor champions for the third time in a row in the 1995/96 season. In 1998, the FVZ rose from the third last from the amateur league in the regional league Thuringia. In the following season, FV Zeulenroda was able to keep the class as twelfth in the table, but had to file for bankruptcy in 1999 .

FC Motor Zeulenroda

In order to keep club football alive in Zeulenroda, FC Motor Zeulenroda was re-established on February 10, 1999. With effect from July 1, 1999, the new club officially started playing in the Thuringian Football Association . The sporting new beginning with Uwe Lehmann as coach took place in the lowest division, the district class. In the following years the ascent succeeded several times. In 2003 the FC Motor won the Cup of the East Thuringian Football District (OTFB). Since 2003/04 the club played in the Thuringian state class (East relay). Since January 2005, when coach Olaf Distelmeier moved to VfB Pößneck , Rico Pellmann was responsible for the team as player- coach. Under his leadership, FC Motor Zeulenroda rose to the Thuringia League in 2007 . After his release, Distelmeier returned as a trainer in January 2007. As penultimate in the table, FC Motor rose again to the national class (East relay) after the 2007/08 season. With coach Tino Focke succeeded in relegation against the table runner-up of the season West, SV EK Veilsdorf , the immediate rise in the Thuringian League . Since 2010 the men's teams of FC Motor have played in a syndicate with Triebeser SV under the name SG Zeulenroda / Triebes . In the 2010/11 season, the syndicate rose from bottom of the table in the Thuringian League in the regional class East.

On September 1, 2016, head coach Ralf-Tino Focke and assistant coach Carsten Herrmann announced their resignation after 8 years as the coach of the first men's team. Ex-GDR national player Matthias Liebers took over . After two seasons Liebers moved to league competitor SG Traktor Teichel , his assistant coach Sebastian Gruner took over the post of head coach and was supported by board member Martin Lensner as assistant coach. At the end of the 2018/19 season, Gruner resigned as head coach, so that Martin Lenßner took over his position and has since trained the team without an assistant coach.
