FDGB Cup 1963/64

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 13th competition for the soccer FDGB Cup took place in the 1963/64 season.

At the beginning there was a preliminary round with the 65 teams of the second GDR league , which was abolished at the end of the 1962/63 season, and the 17 finalists of the district cup competitions that were not represented there. The 32 representatives of the first GDR league joined in the first main round, the 14 upper league teams played from main round 3, in which only two teams each of the district cups and the second GDR league played.

The round of 16 consisted of eleven upper division clubs, four teams from the I. GDR League and Empor Neustrelitz as the last district representative. The Neustrelitzers were eliminated after a home defeat against SC Motor Jena with 1: 2, as did last year's cup finalist Chemie Zeitz , who lost 2: 2 at SC Aufbau Magdeburg . Of the GDR league team, only ASG Vorwärts Neubrandenburg made it to the quarter-finals.

In the quarterfinals, the end for Neubrandenburg came through a high 2: 7 defeat at SC Leipzig . SC Leipzig then eliminated last year's cup winner Motor Zwickau in the semifinals with a 3-2 away win after extra time. As the second finalist, SC Aufbau Magdeburg qualified with a 3-2 win against SC Motor Jena.

Course of the game

  • Peat film
7th minute: Trölitzsch takes a free kick directly in front of the Magdeburg goal, goalkeeper Moldenhauer can only clap the ball. The advancing defender Faber throws himself into the ball and brings it over the line. 37th Minute: Frenzel is played by Franke, plays Magdeburg's central defender and crosses in front of the goal, where Engelhardt can complete. 39th Minute: Stöcker starts a solo run unhindered from the center line, fits right winger Walter, who hits the ball with a hard low shot into the near corner despite the distress. 74 minutes: Hirschmann takes a free kick in front of the Leipzig goal at lightning speed, the surprised Leipzig defense cannot prevent Walter from shooting, goalkeeper Nauert is powerless. 94.Minute: Nauert can only ricochet off a forced shot from Walter, Stöcker storms up and shoots the winning goal, still harassed by two Leipzigers.

At 35 degrees in the shade, five weeks after the end of the league season, the championship third SC Leipzig and the table eleventh SC Aufbau Magdeburg met. The Leipziger immediately seized the game with a sure ball control and skillful moves and brought the insecure-looking Magdeburg defense into great distress with their three storm tips. The Magdeburgers also lacked the exact pass from midfield, which was repeatedly pushed on the defensive, the strikers could not use the mostly high flanks against the safe Leipzig defense. After the quick 2-0 lead, everyone believed in a clear victory for SC Leipzig. Walter's connecting goal in the 39th minute, however, brought the surprising turnaround. Suddenly the people of Leipzig lost their security and Magdeburg began to turn the game around. After the break, coach Kümmel had changed his storm, Walter now played center forward. Due to the injury to both Leipzig midfielders, Magdeburg built up a pressure that the opposing defense could no longer cope with. Stöcker and Walter whirled dangerously through the Leipzig penalty area, the equalizer in the 74th minute was fully deserved. Referee Kunze took the time delays caused by the injuries of the Leipzig players as an opportunity for stoppage time of several minutes. The Magdeburg team used this four minutes after regular time with a powerful move to score the winning goal.
